Torquay Marina is in Torquay Harbour on the Southwest coast of Devon. A seaside town in the ‘English Riviera’. It’s a very popular destination for visitors due to its mild climate.

It’s a bustling marina that (in a regular year) seems to be very active with berth-holder events.

The marina itself is in the centre of Torquay. Within a short walk is a wide variety of shops, restaurants, bars and other amenities.

There are 440 berths suitable for vessels up to 30m. The marina itself is well sheltered and safe in all weathers.

Torquay Marina has the Yacht Harbour Association’s Five Gold Anchors award.

How much can you save by taking a berth at Torquay Marina?

Sublet berths

MDL berth owners are allowed to sublet their lease berths as long as the rate for the berth does not undercut MDL current pricing. The price quoted is the current MDL rate less VAT.

• 8 weeks storage ashore (subject to availability and local restrictions). After 8 weeks, storage ashore will be charged at the rate published in the marina’s additional services tariff.

• Unlimited Wi-Fi

• Sub-lessees can get back up to:

  2% on fuel

  10% on visitor berthing

  14% on boatyard services

  4% on short stays and paid storage ashore at other MDL marinas

Long lease berths for sale

We regularly hear from owners that the main reason for buying, rather than renting a marina berth is to fix their berthing costs. We try to make it easy to make a comparison vs renting the same size berth in the same marina.

8m berth for sale

The 8m berth is for sale for £30,000 plus an annual service of circa £1,312. You can moor until 2034.

Assuming no increase in annual service charge this = an annual cost of owning this berth of £3812.

During the berthing year 2023/24, the rate for renting an 8m berth at Torquay Marina is £5357.44.

Therefore the saving you would make each year over renting would be £1545.44 or £18,545.28 over the lifetime of owning the berth.

In actuality, over the period of the lease, you will save more money per annum as the marina increases its annual rental charges.

Location and travel information

The marina is 18 miles from Exeter and 28 miles from Plymouth. Torquay train station is a 20-minute walk or a 5-minute taxi.
