From the Hamble to Croatia: The UK and European Berths Our Clients Love Most

When people first come to Triangle Berth Brokers, they often have a location in mind. A marina they’ve visited on a sailing holiday, a stretch of coastline they’ve always dreamed of returning to, or simply a berth close to home that would let them get on the water whenever the mood takes them.

Since 1990, we’ve helped boat owners buy, sell and sublet berths in some of the most beautiful marina locations in the world — from the heart of the Solent to the sun-drenched Adriatic coast. In over three decades of brokerage, we’ve learned that the “perfect berth” means something different to every client. But certain locations come up time and time again.

Here’s a look at some of the berths our clients love most — and what makes each one special.

United Kingdom

The Hamble: Port Hamble Marina & Hamble Point Marina

For many of our UK clients, the Hamble River is home. Situated on the eastern shores of Southampton Water, the Hamble is one of the most active sailing destinations in the country — and for good reason. The river is lined with world-class marinas, excellent chandleries, and a sailing community that’s second to none.

Port Hamble Marina is consistently one of our most requested UK locations. It offers excellent facilities, easy access to the Solent, and the kind of sailing that keeps boat owners coming back season after season. Berths here are held on long leases and represent outstanding long-term value as annual marina fees continue to rise.

Hamble Point Marina, just minutes away, is equally sought-after. We regularly list berths here for both sale and sublet — ranging from 11m to 20m — and they rarely stay available for long. If you’re on our enquiry list for Hamble Point, you’ll know that the phone tends to ring quickly when something comes up.

Northney Marina, Hayling Island

Tucked into Chichester Harbour, Northney Marina is a firm favourite for boat owners who want a quieter, more sheltered alternative to the busier Solent marinas — without sacrificing quality or access to beautiful sailing waters. Chichester Harbour itself is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and Northney sits right at its heart.

We have a range of berths available here from 12m to 25m, offered for both sale and sublet.

Torquay Marina, Devon

For clients based in the West Country — or those looking to move their boating life down the coast — Torquay Marina is a perennial favourite. Set in the heart of the English Riviera, it combines a genuinely beautiful harbour setting with excellent facilities and strong year-round demand.

Torquay is also one of our go-to examples when clients ask whether buying a berth makes financial sense. An 8m berth here currently costs significantly less to own on a long lease than to rent annually from the marina directly — in some cases saving owners well over £10,000 over the course of the lease term.

Mercury Yacht Harbour & Gosport Marina

Mercury Yacht Harbour on the Hamble and Gosport Marina across the water offer two further options for Solent-based sailors seeking long-term berths with outstanding access to the English Channel and the wider cruising grounds of northern France and the Channel Islands.

Falmouth Marina & Ocean Village, Southampton

For those seeking something a little different, Falmouth Marina in Cornwall sits at the mouth of one of the world’s great natural harbours — an ideal base for Atlantic sailing, Celtic voyages and some of the most dramatic sailing waters in the UK. We currently have a 10m preference share berth available here at £40,000.

Ocean Village Marina in Southampton is another standout, offering berths in a vibrant waterfront setting with direct access to Southampton Water. We even have a rare opportunity here combining a 16m berth with a 3-bedroom, 4-bathroom townhouse — leased until 2989. For the sailor who truly wants it all, this one is hard to beat.

Europe

Croatia

Croatia is, without question, one of the most requested European destinations our clients ask about — and it’s not hard to see why. With over a thousand islands, crystal-clear water and a sailing season that stretches from April through October, Croatia offers some of the finest cruising in the Mediterranean.

Berths in Croatian marinas are increasingly valuable, with demand from international boat owners continuing to grow. Whether you’re looking to base a sailing boat in the Adriatic full-time or secure a berth you can return to each summer, Croatia represents a compelling combination of lifestyle and investment.

Spain: Puerto Banus & Port Forum

Puerto Banus in Marbella is one of Europe’s most glamorous marina addresses. A 50m berth here with a lease until 2067 is currently available through Triangle at €1,800,000 — a prestigious opportunity for superyacht owners seeking a long-term base on the Costa del Sol.

Port Forum, located near Barcelona, offers a more versatile range of berths from 12m all the way up to 80m — ideal for owners who want access to the Balearics, the French Riviera and the wider western Mediterranean from a well-connected, well-facilitated base.

Mallorca & the Balearics: Puerto Portals

Puerto Portals in Mallorca is widely regarded as one of the finest marinas in the Mediterranean. Stylish, well-equipped and perfectly positioned for sailing the Balearics, it attracts a sophisticated international clientele and consistently generates strong demand from our clients. We have a 26m berth available here for sublet in July and August at €55,000 — ideal for owners looking to sublet their berth during peak season.

Portugal: Nova Marina, Vilamoura

Vilamoura on the Algarve coast is one of southern Europe’s great sailing destinations, and Nova Marina, Vilamoura is its crown jewel. Offering berths from 20m upwards on rental terms of one to five years, it provides a world-class base for Atlantic sailing, passage-making and the relaxed Portuguese lifestyle that so many of our clients have fallen in love with.

Further Afield: Greece, Montenegro, Italy, Thailand, the Maldives & the Caribbean

For clients whose ambitions extend beyond Europe, Triangle has berths available — or has facilitated transactions — in Greece, Montenegro, Italy, Thailand, the Maldives, Tunisia, Turkey and the Caribbean. Whether you’re looking for a base in the Greek islands, a winter berth in the tropics, or a mooring in the heart of the Med, we’ve likely helped a client secure exactly that.

Finding Your Perfect Berth

The locations above represent just a selection of what we work with at any given time. Our portfolio changes regularly as new berths come to market, and many of our best opportunities are matched to clients before they’re ever publicly listed.

If you have a location in mind — or you’re open to exploring the options — the best first step is simply to get in touch. We’ll talk you through what’s currently available, what’s likely to come to market, and whether buying or subletting makes the most sense for your situation.

And as always, our service is completely free for buyers and renters.
